KALEIDO 2019

Kaleido, my first “real job” after nearly thirty years of school! I joined Kaleido when they were around 20 people and left when they were around 150. During that time, I learned quite a bit about people, the politics of biotech, and how to motivate and manage a diverse team of researchers. I worked on a variety of projects there, including KB109 which was recently announced for a clinical trial for COVID-19 treatment, and helped build and integrate many of their omics analysis tools. Unfortunately, I needed to leave Kaleido for a variety of family reasons, but I’m excited and optimistic to see how their clinical trial data looks in late 2020 and 2021. I joined Kaleido because the idea of ecosystem management via prebiotics for the microbiome is, to me, currently the best approach for drugging the microbiome. I think this novel approach for human health remains a strong one and am excited to see how the company develops.

While I can’t talk too much about my work at Kaleido, I can tell you we worked hard and had fun! Below is a photo from one of the Biology Team’s broom hockey outings. Technically I wasn’t on the Biology Team, being a computational [biologist] scientist, but they tolerated me all the same!
