Upon graduating from UC Berkeley in 2016 I had two manuscripts in review, so we decided to embargo my dissertation for two years. If you care to read my dissertation, it was released in 2018 and can be found here. The document largely follows my previous publications but includes some added context and narrative to tie my publications together.
Pictured here are two of my classmates who graduated at the same time as me, Rose Kantor and Chris Brown. These two are exceptional and, in general, the Banfield Lab was exceptional! Jill is, and continues to be, a pioneer in the metagenomics field. Her intellect and intuition for understanding microbial communities is magnetic and nucleates a creative and inspirational group of researchers. It was a true privilege to spend time in the lab.
